Scream - Complete Control (2011)

How strange life is; I was just thinking I wish I still got excited about new music the way I used to as a nipper, and then this arrives and well, er, I got excited. This is fucking great, seriously good. Don't expect Still Screaming as it's more in line with the Fumble era, but three reasons why that makes this 100% better than most releases: -

1. It's Scream.
2. It's Scream.
3. It's Scream.

This is the original line up reformed and releasing new material for the first time in over 20+ years. Where does life go? Pete, Franz, Skeeter, Kent and a new guitarist Clint Walsh have made me one very fucking happy bunny. If my zimmer frame wasn't broken I'd be pogoing right about now.

Seven new tracks recorded in Dave Grohls studio finished with a stomping version of Demolition Dancing by the Ruts. You need to invest a few quid and buy this....pure gold!!!!!!

Wool - Budspawn (1992)

So as mentioned below, this band started life in the early 90's when Scream imploded. The Stahl brothers recruited ex Governent Issue drummer Pete Moffett and ex Concrete Blonde bassist Al Bloch (brother of Kurt from the Fastbacks).

They released their first 7'' , Little Darlin in 1992 on the Fuck You record label. This was followed by this brilliant release. Budspawn, self released, should be available today as it's so under rated and should be better known. Here they plough a more melodic rock/punk vein and there's not a duff track on it.

Pete Moffett exited the band after this release and was replaced by Chris Bratton ex Inside Out. The band signed to London Records and recorded the, also, excellent Box Set, but due to poor sales they were dropped. The band split in 1996, which is a damn shame imo.

Pete and Franz both went onto various other projects, but nothing matches this, or Scream; I think they're both at their best when working together.

Scream - Live at Van Hall (1988)

Scream were a firm favourite of mine and really need no introduction...but here goes.

Formed in 1981 by Pete and Franz Stahl, singer and guitarist, together with Skeeter Thompson, bass and Kent Stax, drums. They would soon be recognised as one of the foremost hardcore bands and released the timeless "Still Screaming" album in 1983. With the addition of Robert "Harley" Davidson they realeased the equally, if not slightly better, "This Side Up" album in '84. A weak, in my opinion, 3rd album, Banging the Drum, followed just before Kent left the band.

He was replaced by Dave Grohl, previoulsy of Mission Impossible, who played on their 4th and 5th albums, No More Censorship and Fumble. The band called it a day in 1990 with Pete and Franz forming the excellent Wool and Dave going on to.......well we all know that right!

I had the good fortune to see these in around '88 with Generic and White Flag supporting. A mate videod the whole night and I still have a copy of the gig on tape......I'll have to get that transferred to dvd some day. It's a great watch as Scream put on a blinding performance.

This gig was recorded in Amsterdam in '88 and is long out of print. Mediafire
